I’ve been deep, deep into a deadline-writing fugue over the last two weeks, making my final push to get the Truman manuscript out the door. So I’ve been taking a little break from blogging and trying not to beat myself up about it. More will be coming, fear not. But I’ve got to get this book done and done, first. But I don’t want to leave you, loyal readers, hanging, so here is a collection of this-and-that to tide you over.

Recreation of the state of the first “demon core” accident, August 21, 1945, after the accident. This is the highest-resolution version of the photograph that I have seen, and I have recently uploaded it to Wikimedia Commons so that the world can stop using pixellated pictures of it.

People are quite fascinated by the so-called “Demon Core,” and I’ve certainly gotten in on that as well, and my Doomsday Machines post on Demon Core memes was (entirely predictably) among the most popular (so far). I’ve been collecting material on the “Demon Core” criticality accidents for some years now, and so here is some “Demon Core” bonus content, which I am also sending as a free preview also to all free subscribers (because I don’t want to neglect you, either)…
