This is just a quick update post, as I am running on fumes this week — just too much to get done in this final month of summer. I will try to make up for it by posting more dog photos than usual.

One of the houses that we often walk Lyndon by in Jersey City has a chicken coop in its back yard. Lyndon LOVES staring at the chickens. Recently, they added a new group of young chickens to the pen, and Lyndon would REALLY like to meet them. It is not going to happen, except through the fence.

In case you missed it, this week on Doomsday Machines, I posted about nuclear war in video games more generally, and then again on the origins of the Oregon Road ‘83 project. I also had a really fun conversation with Matthew Gault and Jason Fields at their Angry Planet podcast. It is only available for subscribers to them, alas.

I also posted two historical threads on Bluesky, one on dating August 10, 1945, as the origin of US Presidential sole authority for the use of nuclear weapons, and another on the famous human shadow at Hiroshima, and the ways in which much of the “lore” about it perpetuates myths that I think are harmful for a true understanding of nuclear weapons.

Sometimes Lyndon absolutely refuses to let me take a good picture of him. It feels very deliberate — he “backs” me. This is his, “I don’t want you to take a picture right now” face.
